Popular Grooming Tools and Their Uses for the proper maintenance of your dog’s coat.

While Grooming Salons are closed due to the province-wide mandated closure, the below tools are recommended to maintain your dog’s coat until we can re-open. Remember to support your local small business for these purchases whenever possible. All below tools are in stock and ready to purchase in our salon. Porch pick up available and debit or etransfers are recommended. Contact us should you have any questions about what tools would be appropriate for your dog’s coat.

Slicker Brush

The slicker brush is a widely used tool in the grooming industry. It’s a fantastic brush for many different types of coats, especially medium to long-coated breeds. The small wire bristles are great at grabbing and removing large amounts of hair from the coat and undercoat. Using this brush regularly can help greatly reduce matting and shedding keeping your dog’s coat healthy and shiny.

Pin Brush

A pin brush is very similar to a slicker brush, but the wire pins on this brush have rubber or plastic tips. This is an especially good brush for dogs with long and silky coats or dog’s with sensitive skin. It’s a commonly used, versatile brush, that’s good for getting out minor mats and tangles.

Medium & Fine-Toothed Comb

Combs are heavily used in the grooming world as an effective tool for removing hair from deep within the coat. With the option of using either the fine-toothed or medium-toothed side, this comb can get rid of pesky tangles that brushes may not grab. Work slowly and gently through the tangles to ensure the comfort of your pooch.

Mat Breaker (*See above photo)

Mat breakers are another incredibly useful tool for groomers and clients alike as regular brushes will often not do the trick for removing stubborn mats. Fixed with curved blades at the end of a small handle, the mat breaker’s blades are sharp and meant to cut through the mat. The design was created to reduce pulling on your dog’s skin by using a scooping motion to cut the hair rather than pull it. This tool is highly recommended, especially for long, curly coated breeds.

FURminator deShedding Tool

The FURminator deShedding Tool is a wonderful tool which helps to reduce shedding by up to 90% with regular use. It is most effective when combined with our FURminator deShedding treatment. Please inquire about our FURminator deShedding treatment upon the salon’s re-opening. The tools are available for long and short coats and reach through the top coat to remove the loose undercoat. The design is meant to successfully release the dead fur while not irritating the skin and works wonders! Regularly brushing your dog’s coat has many great benefits like releasing dead fur from the coat, reducing shedding and removing mats, ultimately improving their comfort and happiness.
